My father had this cat about 35 lbs or so, a really alley cat. One day 2 St. Bernards wandered into the yard. They didn’t stay very long once the cat got to them.
There are those who loudly proclaim their friendship, loyalty, and devotion. But when trouble comes they cower behind a good and convenient reason why they could offer no help. And then there are those who don’t boast of their loyalty and devotion, but at the first hint of a friend in distress they are the first to rush headlong into the face of adversity without regard to the cost to themselves in order to bring aid.
Like Snoopy, my older brother was a good example of the latter when we were children. We had plenty of sibling squabbles, but he was always quick to intercede if I was threatened by other kids or was otherwise in danger.

You got off easy, pup! If it were a 10-pound cat, you’d be in shreds!! 50-pounders are ponderous…

Maybe the cat was Heathcliff, that cat always beats the dogs and wins the fights.

Oops Linus, mistaken identity: I think you owe Snoopy a treat or two!

Poor kitten has lost his mitten. Give it back, Snoopy. At least it wasn’t a little pink sock…. (Mutts comics)

If nothing else though, we see how far Snoopy will go to protect Woodstock! (now only if it had been the REAL one!)

Maybe reading some more of War and Peace will cheer him up.

Anyone know when this ran? I don’t recall it at all. We must be in a later era when I didn’t read a paper much or buy the paperbacks….

Snoopy, I told you yesterday to leave that one alone.

I’ve always tried to imagine what WWII looks like . . . the damage he does to Snoopy’s house (and Snoopy) makes me think of a mountain lion!

Will Woodstock find out what Snoopy did for him? Will Snoopy admit it?

Gotta “hand” it to you Snoopy for coming to the rescue of your friend (or something similar) :)
