Chips and dips…

Here in California, those would probably be tortilla chips…

and the type of salsa might be chosen for you.

Some places, though, have salsa “bars” … where I can load up on tiny cups of salsa fresca or “pico de gallo”… mmm….

It’s been years since I’ve had potato chips and dip…. and maybe never in a restaurant.

Healthier eating, and the fear of “double dipping” have even driven them off party tables…

though they may still exist in the privacy of one’s home.

I remember when every party required a giant bag of those ribbed potato chips…

along with a large bowl of sour cream into which a few packets of onion soup mix had been stirred.

One of the world’s easiest “recipes”, which used up about half the onion soup mix ever sold.

The other half was used for sprinkling over that hunk of beef that you wrapped in foil and baked into a simple but tasty pot roast.

Rumor has it that some people even made it on top of the car engine, during a Sunday drive…

though I’m more inclined to believe the ones who say that method only “cooks up” a huge charred mess.

People around here nowadays usually give short shrift to onion soup mix recipes.

They don’t meet the bar for “natural”, creative, fresh or healthy…

but I kinda miss that stuff.

And in answer to your unasked question…

no, I don’t think anybody actually made onion soup out of it…. though I could be wrong.

As for flea dip…

my last smartphone was a pleasant little Galaxy®…

as was the one before.

My current one is a low-end LG…

2 years old, and I hope it lasts a looott longer.

But if/when I ever need another, I think I’ll go back to Samsung.
