The ex has no idea how to access her messages. My messages are all in a contraption that is attached to my phone and all it requires is the push of a button to hear them.

Pluggers don’t understand complex technology like that. That’s why there are Plugger children to show them how things work.;-D

When I was handed my first smart phone, it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to turn it on. :(

    My outgoing message:

If you’ve reached this message, please hang up and text me. I haven’t listened to my voicemail since 2005.

Texting is the only way to get in touch with my son. His voicemail won’t accept a message because it’s full and he won’t empty it.

The biggest reason people can’t do something is that they haven’t learned to stop saying “I can’t…,” use that as a crutch, and steadfastly refuse to read instructions or listen and pay attention to anyone trying to teach them. And people wonder why our schools are horrible. We’ve raised generation after generation of “I can’t,” “it’s too hard,” and “I can’t be bothered” people who wonder why life’s so hard and everyone is so bitter. Drop the “I can’t” attitude and you’ll see a lot of things are really pretty easy. The rest of us are gettin’ tired of doin’ simple stuff for ya all the time.

I don’t like texting, but kinda got forced into it by those who insist on texting me. I’m starting to grasp it.

It’s not ’can’t’ it is rather, please show me how to do operate it. I don’t need all of the bells and whistles. I am not going to spend the day sending and receiving messages, watching films, twitting, snapshot-ing, etc. Wake up each morning checking the GoComics, puts me in a good humor, and then off to do whatever is needed.

I got my first computer in ‘84, learned what to do at the C: prompt, started a data management business and every job I had since required increasing computer use. The job I had in ’96/’97 was the one where I was tasked with getting us on the Internet. I have a not-smart cell phone, from which I can collect my messages; and (obviously) a computer with email, which I check several times a day as I do a lot of household business on line. I don’t text, however, and you’d think I was on the other side of the moon from my younger friends. I think THEY’re the ones who are too lazy to learn…to write with more than thumbs or actually speak sentences. (Actually, my younger friends are very kind and accommodating when they find out that I figuratively live in a log cabin.)

The best use of texting, is to leave a quick message. “I’m on my way” takes less time then calling waiting on the person to pick up and going through the “How are you doing?” and small talk just to say, “I’m on my way.” Another good thing about texting is to give a quick answer to someone when you’re in a meeting. But the greatest help that texting has been to me is to send a technician a picture of a part r part number I need or a problem I’m having and that helps he or she find what I need.

But to carry on Long conversations when it is easier to make a phone call, that’s a dumb use not texting.

Triple A jump started my car and handed me a card to tell some I like their work. I don’t know how this five number text things work. Don’t really want to know either. I heard some of them end up putting extra charges on your phone bill.
