I have it – it’s Coach Thorp a couple of comic strips down from here! Marty Moon finally drove him over the edge.

But, wait, Dick, was Fred also a “sportswriter”?

The common thread is Coach, not writer. So Coach K, Popovich, Williams, Belichick, Gruden, Spolestra, and maybe pseudo coach Lebron better be careful

Is it just me, but the way that Joe is drawn he looks like a young Doubleup. It’s the tuff of hair that sticks out to the side that makes me think of that and especially in the last panel with the shape of his face.

These victims are sports-people, one’s who probably held strong opinions about the game(s) that interested them. And they were probably not reluctant to criticize the columns of a certain old-school typewriting sportswriter who is quick to take umbrage and to take up arms against his critics.

In short, Joe Sampson and Dick Tracy have just the first stage of the puzzle sussed out; there is much more that they need to do!
