Reminds me of when I would poke my little 3" refractor out the window on a cold, clear winter night in Maine to look at the stars. Ccccolldd! Sessions tended to be relatively brief, while seeming to be relatively long…
And later I read about how Hubble and Humason would sit for hours at 100 inch telescope, making tiny corrections by hand to keep the telescope aligned on the galaxies of which they were recording photographic spectra. At over 5000 feet, Mt. Wilson nights in winter are cold.
