I would never offer a woman a senior discount unless she mentioned her eligibility to me or I had her photo ID with age right in front of me. My instinct for self-preservation is too strong.
How well I remember the first time I was given without asking for a senior discount. I smiled for an hour. What a deal, all I had to do is exist long enough, and bada-bing-cashine!! Hey, can’t do anything about it, so might as will enjoy it. Better than paying taxes anyway!!
First time I got one, was when we paid a resturant tab. Was kind of taken aback at first, but like my friend said, “What the heck, you’re saving money!”
Cancelled the AARP membership though, (first mailings start to come when you hit 50!) after their support of Obama Wan’s health care bill.
CDWard: Want to make points? Ask the lady to check her ID when she asks for the discount. Pretend you can’t tell she was on the committee that designed dirt and she will love you forever.
PS Tell her I enjoyed working with her on the Dirt Project.
magnamax, right you are! I went to a liquor store with my mother once (and I am the fifth child in my family) - and the guy carded my mother (not me!). She reached over and gave him a big hug.
most places are realizing the boomers are hitting the discounts heavier, now, so they tend to give them only when requested, and the qualifying age is rising….
the local transit bus company requires you get a special over age 65 ID (10 or 15 bucks per year) and you have to show it and a photo ID to get the discount. and they only make the ID’s at “specially scheduled times”, and you can’t use it for day passes (full price–they don’t use transfers here, one route/one way $1.50, route, bus, or direction change $3.50).
right.

Absolutely, cdward. It’s like not mentioning pregnancy unless you can see the head crowning.

Denise should just take the discount and run!

I’d be insulted too if someone did that to me!

I have no problem with being a senior and getting a discount. However, there is a certain unreality about it.

My first discount was unqualified, but I didn’t say anything, just laughed and went with it……………

“I qualify for the senior discout, but I forgot my ID.” “That’s ok. I’ll give you the discount.” “Ah! Do I look honest? “No, you look 65.”

“WHAT!’ “What do you mean I get a 20% discount?” I’m 65 - I deserve the 65% discount!
