I got invited to an awards ceremony, business casual aka suit and tie. I declined as I hadn’t owned a suit in over 30 years. Working in IT had some advantages.
The last time Hubby wore a suit and necktie was my mum’s funeral. He couldn’t remember how to fix his tie; the undertaker said he could do it, but Hubby would have to lay down first. Brother-in-law took care of it.
My mon passed away while my wife an I were at the Sturgis Motorcyccle Rally. We raced to my home town for teh planning and funeral. We wore our blue jeans, T-shirts, and leathers. I think she would have understood. My dad rode a Harley and my mom rode behind him on the buddy seat. They honeymooned at the Rally ’46.
I had a boyfriend who was going to be inducted into a social group, and this required that a suit and tie be worn. Guests weren’t invited, so I wasn’t with him. But he didn’t know how to tie a tie, so he asked me to meet him somewhere and tie it for him. (I had 5 younger brothers, and we went to church dressed formally every Sunday, so I’d had lots of practice tying ties on males of various sizes.) I met him at a nearby restaurant, where I tied his tie, and he finished putting on his coat, dusting his shoes, etc. This was somewhat entertaining to the restaurant employees.

At the Seattle P-I comic site, the leisure suit is way more hideous. It’s lemon yellow with lime green trim!

“Laying down at an undertakers”? No, way; I wear running shoes when I attend a funeral – just in case…
