I suspect the teacher is a product of her education as well. I’m afraid that people are different and the same lesson may make some of us comply and others rebel.
Personally I preferrednot being called on. I think I learned more on my own, wandering the library shelves. For some reason, the librarians never made me stay in the children’s section. That could be why I was reading and comprehending high school level at 9 or 10, I think it was.
My daughter had a high school teacher exactly like this and worse. Till the day the woman was overtly racist to another kid, telling him he couldn’t learn math because his parents were Hispanic. She was fired before the day was over, to the relief of, well, pretty much everybody.

I had other things to do so I made sure to raise my hand with the correct answer till he wanted others to answer then stopped and carried on.
