I wouldn’t eat there unless I were paid handsomely for it.

I find that I usually over-tip because the places we choose to eat at are Mom & Pop type places and the service is always outstanding. Our two favorites are a Cowboy Bar with great chicken (we don’t drink) and a Chinese restaurant that is only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Best food at both.

As far as Rory’s grumpy friend, I can’t imagine anyone being glad he’s visited their restaurant.

A 20% surcharge on a meal might.. be fine for those that pay with other folks credit.. Not so much for the guy that pays out of his own pocket.

I worked for many years in the restaurant industry. From Manager to District Manager and Regional Manager. I have always over tipped if the service is good as I think everyone should. If you can’t afford to properly tip, you shouldn’t be spending your money at a restaurant. But to have someone TELL me what to tip….NO! That is not acceptable.
