“Love can completely consume you and then go away as if it never happened. —It’s sort of like an illness.” Words that both Elly and Connie’s husbands would not like to hear them say, especially if it was true.
Completely overwhelm you, then goes away…… but it really never goes away completely. There’s always that ONE little remaining bit of…. whatever….that will stay with you forever. Speaking from experience here.
Calvin did show my notes to his friends. I can still see them laughing. I can still feel the humiliation, but I still liked him. A lot.
Many years later, when I was well into the comic strip and a bit full of myself, I saw Calvin in a restaurant. He recognized me and stood up for a moment to say hello. He said he knew my work. He said he was driving racecars for a living and I told him I’d love to watch. We haven’t seen each other since, but now and then, I do wonder what he’s up to and if he ever thinks of me. Yes, anyone who says there is no such thing as young love has never been young and in love. The first time is unforgettable!
I had a crush on a popular guy in school… In the grand scheme of things, it amounted to a five-minute crush. The gal he married, to this day, is still peeved about it. Almost 50 years later, and she can’t let it go. I see him, and I think ugh!

I wonder what Colin Winch is up to these days since graduating high school.

That’s what young love is all about.

It’s why young love was called ‘puppy love’, once upon a time. Intense, but not a mature and lasting emotion…

My hubby fills up my car’s gas when it’s low. That’s love.

Very fortunate. Some are very worth while.

Ellie looks kind of cute in the back view of the last panel; not dumpy and slouched at all!

I suppose that explains divorce. Sad, but real.

I know a person can’t dwell on the pain and rejection, which is not easy, because the one that is hurt is still you. From the lips of been there.
