It was no longer part of the elementary grades’ curriculum when I retired in 2005 which was frustrating because we were supposed to teach our students how to make basic story outlines.
Well, she could google it – oh, wait, you have to have learned something first to know WHAT to google. That is the problem if you only depend on using the internet for learning. You have to be taught WHAT to look for and then be taught how to tell if it valid – which is hard to do if you haven’t be TAUGHT anything to begin with. This is blaming a society where the teachers are expected to do EVERYTHING (disciplining, counseling, buying their own supplies, being restricted to only teaching things that will pass the standardized tests, not being able to hold kids back who NEED to repeat a grade, etc.) so wind up not having enough time to actually TEACH. Of course, this is only my opinion based on having a mom and niece for teachers (so seeing school from the 60s-70s to currently) and reading the news.
