Supersurfer, the whole point of Pluggers is to allow luddites, cranks, and slackers to feel a smug superiority to others. Humor is a distant, occasional concern.
What makes this funny for pluggers is the fact that they use the technology that they’re comfortable with, and the realization that one day a daily panel will make jest of those still using the IPod.
LHPuttgrass, I think you’ve missed the point. Pluggers don’t feel “smug” about the things they do or use. They feel comfortable using the things they do or use. They don’t try and make everyone else believe that they HAVE to do things just because everyone else is doing them. My father would probably be described as a plugger, and he doesn’t now own nor has he ever owned a home computer. But then he really has no need for one either, there’s no smugness in that. Pluggers are pluggers because the keep on “plugging along” using things and ideas that work just fine for their intended purposes and aren’t used to impress people like so many of today’s devices are. Maybe I’m a plugger too, despite the fact that I own many of today’s updated devices.
Oh my, I’ve got to be more careful with my comments. What’s so funny about this means I used to have an FM converter AND a 45 RPM record player in my SS Chevelle. When the 45 played it skipped everytime I shifted. Then came the 8 track, much better but the tapes broke. Then the cassette player. Finally the CD player. I currently use Sirius/XM for most of my in vehicle entertainment. Sorry about the confusion.
simpsonfan2, by the time Sgt. Pepper’s came out, the Beatles had stopped giving live concerts - mostly because they couldn’t play any of their songs without studio effects.
I never liked the White Album…I always preferred “The Beatles” instead.

I replicated my 8 tracks onto cassettes because the little rubber wheels were becoming mushy.

You’re a plugger if you know what an 8 track was.

Technology changes quickly, humanity doesn’t.

I still have some vinyl albums and 8 tracks. I also have some 78s and 45s. So I are a Plugger and proud to be one!

I wouldn’t even fit in with these guys. Unless I’m mistaken the “White Album” is a Beatles reference and I even predate them………

I never try to explain Pluggers to anybody. You either get it or you don’t.

I don’t own any 8-track tapes but I’ve still got all my vinyl records from my teen years … mostly Elvis!

I was just wondering if anyone would pick up on that. Yes, the official title of the “White Album” is “The Beatles”.
