Well, that demand certainly gave Wally paws…

Wally has never noticed how many fingers he has?

Definitely acts like Marx…….not the fun loving one. That mean one from back at the Milk Trials……..he loved to be rude, crude, dishing out the verbal abuse. Wally you got four at least…….counting the thumb as a finger on your hand.xD

Hold on a minute. First I thought that Wally surprised that he doesn’t have 5 fingers on one hand…and that this is a sign that his cat form is a delusion. But we’ve seen other examples that folks in this strip do lose fingers when they morph (I think one of the characters is shown in a Topsider suit during the change, and one of the gloves is shown with an empty finger after the change.) So…maybe that’s not it. So, the way to count to 5 on one hand when you have three fingers and a thumb is go one way, then back. Wally seems to be unable to do that. So…is something interfering with his ability to think in a straight line—or logically?

Give him a knuckle sandwich. He won’t think that’s so funny.

Notice that Wally is having trouble simply counting. “1… 3…” There’s more to this than just being a mutant, or losing his memory. Some one’s messed with his brain. Remember when he could calculate out forces for destroying a Topsider PT with just some cables and a fire hydrant? Wally doesn’t.

“Okay, here’s another one that always cracks me up. High Five!”

Interesting. So whatever is done to their brain has a breakdown on 4. Sneaky way of tracking it or unintended consequences

They must operate on Base Eight now.

Four fingers, but he doesnt seem able to get past three.

I appreciate the old crock laughing his butt off at Wally’s confusion. As an old crock myself I enjoy dumbfounding the younger generations.

Nice play on the standard issue four-fingered cartoon character. I’d never thought about Aaron using that here but I like how he’s poking fun at it. I’d say “Two thumbs up,” Aaron, but…well…you know…

Mental continuity has been compromised. They’re basically “coasting” in a state not unlike a dream, which lets their brains ignore continuity errors and obvious falsehoods.

It seems to carry the same limitations as a dream, though. In dreams, it’s complicated to count or read, simply because “before” and “after” are important concepts for both.

Ahaha this is finally mentioned.

I have a strange feeling that we’re on the cusp of some big realization. To quote Willy Wonka, “The suspense is terrible! I hope it will last.”

Thankfully with Endtown, we don’t have to worry about it being drawn out slowly. :-)

Poor Wally is being forced to confront the fact that his brain is not as together/coordinated as he knows it should be. I am wondering if by forcing him to confront/notice it, he will be about to start getting his full memory back?

In fact, the Topsiders logo is pretty much the Apex logo.

The last frame of the last episode pulls back to reveal Bugs Bunny at a drawing table. “Ain’t I a stinker?”
