While Benedict did have a great deal of respect in some circles, in other circles he was known as “Papa Ratzi”. He was said to be fairly lenient toward priests of less than stellar morals.
Following the current drama in the church and aware of their very different goals and agendas, this is an utterly brilliant send up of their papacies, and based on Ben’s recent blatant attempt to undermine Francis. It’s the comics. exaggeration is the game.
This non-Catholic who really likes Pope Francis just learned a lot from reading these comments (unlike some days when the comments are plain old irritating) – thanks!

I have the greatest respect for Benedict XVI. This is a sad and inaccurate depiction of him. Nor would Holy Father Francis agree with this.
