    the tough part about those electrocution devices for cockroaches is trying to strap those little legs into those little electric chairs

    without pulling them off their little squirming bodies.

    Edison was trying to talk to the dead. He had two metal plates delicately balanced and when they touched each other they were electrified. He thought the dead might send messages like a telegraph key but when they came back to the shop every morning all they found were dead cockroaches who had stepped on the plates and energized it.
