Didn’t know what he meant by saying burning through a resource is likely to lead to more shooting wars. “Natural resource exploitation can also play a big role in keeping existing conflicts going — and a great deal of this likely has to do with the illegal extraction and trading of natural resources, which can be instrumental in funding wars and uprisings.” This kid is just too smart.
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who died, not a day to start verbal and physical wars. One day of remembrance without banging verbal drums shouldn’t be tough but it is and is a small example of how wars start.
Funny, I’d think if there were 620,000 deaths this past weekend I’d have heard of it. (American Civil War deaths.) Unless he’s comparing total driving fatalities over the time the holiday has been observed. In which case if you go far enough I would think that death by halibut would probably get fairly high up there as well.
Maybe it’s not just burning through a limited and regional resource; the mere mention of petroleum any more complicated than “here, have some, cheap” seems to get people in a fighting mood.

My response to Mrs. Olsen in panel 4, as it is most times someone says that, is “Short trip.”
