I wonder if Lynn Johnston had been reading the classic comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland by the great Winsor McCay when she wrote this one.

Ever hear of bed-knobs and broomsticks?

Though the original black-and-white is evocative, this is one daily that really benefits from colour, bringing the fantasy fully to life.

I used to lay awake at 4 in the morning wishing that time would freeze so that I wouldn’t have to get up.

A few thoughts are running through my mind about “magic beds” right now, but I choose to keep them to myself ; )

It’s her safe space. She likes to daydream. And if she falls asleep she probably will have some wonderful dreams. I did the same thing at her age. In fact, I do the same thing NOW at age 62. To quote Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) “…there is no place I know to compare to pure imagination, live there you’ll be free if you truly wish to be ….”

I’ve never gotten too big for my magic bed, and I’m fat and old now. It’s still one of my favorite places.

I hope that she looked under the bed before she climbed in; to make sure there was no “Boogie Man” under there!
