Minimal success at something meaningless is a career path it is easy to get trapped in. It is the essence of the careers of almost all office workers. Fortunately, death comes one day to set everyone free.
Most people are afraid of change and get comfortable were they are no matter how boring the job. You don’t quit your job more than likely you quit your Boss
My first day on my last job, the lead man asked me, “why would you want to work at this (screwed)up place?”
(But i knew what i’d left behind- a good boss but a screwed up workplace.)
Over 25 years later i retired, and that man was still there… he was “quitting” that job every day he worked there. Guess that workplace wasn’t quite screwed up enough for him to actually quit.
I’ve been working for the same company for over 30 yrs, providing care to adults that have disabilities. I’ve received 2 promotions, and the next step is management. I’ve refused the next promotion, and have even gladly trained my last 3 supervisors. I say “I love my job, and the people I work with, however the extra paperwork would mess me up too much.”

I keep telling my kids…. secure the new job BEFORE quitting the old one!

Way to go, young man. Hold out for that management position.
