There are somethings you don’t start unless you know you can win, wrestling a Grizzly Bear is one, impeachment is another. The object is to remove Trump, not to send a message, the Senate will not convict & remove. Stop playing games, get to work on defeating him in 2020.
Mitch against doing his job when O nominated to the Supremes, Nancy against doing her job on impeachment. Party games rule. The difference between donkey & elephant is how big a shovel you need.
Why play into Trump’s hands and impeach now? If he wins a second term anyway, that option does not go away as long as the Dems still hold the House. If he does not, he can be indicted, tried, and punished. With no Republicans on board, his presidency would survive and he would emerge more powerful than ever.
Impeach now and the Senate immediately votes it down. Free victory lap for the Boss Baby and even more galvanizing to his delusional base. His puppeteers are too good at using his own incompetence to create plausible deniability. The GOP is completely aware of this and loves the easy smokescreen to keep changing policy the way they like it. Thank goodness the new House majority can put the brakes on that until the next election. As much as it hurts to watch, the only way to win against Donny Doofus is to let him and his cronies dig their own graves. For 2 1/2 years, cooler heads have kept him from tanking the country, and with a little luck they can keep it up for just a while longer. It’s an excruciating long game.

Actually, doing the things Trump should be in jail for requires a lot of money to start with.
