Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

“…what were we talking about?”

“Where was i going with this?”

Family Circus method of story telling.

I keep looking for a shaggy dog…

The story ends when your friend asks for the ending.

This is my dad!

And the Beginning to middle seemed so uncomplicated…

SQUIRREL!

Thats the Midwestern way of telling stories, the more pointless the details the better.

Sometimes detours end up starting another one by starting with, “On a completely unrelated note…”.
