As a kid, I was annoyed that my father insisted on some rules related to fireworks. Especially irritating, because every other kid in the neighborhood got to do it, was his rule against holding a lit Roman Candle and firing off the fireballs in different directions. He made us stick the thing in the ground, light it, and back off.
I quit being such a skeptic the time I stuck one in the ground, lit the fuse, backed off… and the whole thing exploded with a fiery flash and a loud boom and all of the fireballs flying in different directions simultaneously.
I am 65 – my entire life plus before that all fireworks are illegal other than shows by licensed companies – even sparklers are illegal.
Last year for the first time in I don’t know how long, we were home on the 4th. I thought I was in war zone! Figuring we are normally in PA where fireworks are legal and we don’t hear almost anything it makes one wonder. We know to never drive home on the 4th at night. We will drive through 2 states where fireworks are legal – PA and NJ – and hear nothing. Then we hit NY and people are shooting them off from their car windows plus along the road.

Fireworks don’t excite me after the pyrotechnics I got to “play” with in the Army.

See. It’s good for the economy; without idiots to treat the ER’s would go out of business…
