Linus van Pelt’s definition of security is one word: blanket.

With self driving cars, we may get back to sleeping while driving.

You were doing so well, Charlie Brown, and then you had to ruin it with an inconvenient truth!

I remember many, many years ago when it was called Comics.com, they made an ecard of this strip. It had the most beautiful music. I wish I had had the computer smarts then to be able to save the music somehow. I still don’t.

But it’s an illusory security. You can’t wear seat belts while lying down sleeping in the back seat of the car, which means that you are the most exposed person if there is an accident. I don’t think cars even had seat belts in the back when this strip was made. Nowadays, seat belts are mandatory even in the back, and small children have to have special child safety seats.

Children may have felt secure, but they are certainly more secure now.

Side note. I don’t know any other strip where Schulz actually drew a car.

Maybe you can nod off in the back seat occasionally when your adult children are driving you somewhere.

Relax Patty … by the time you’re old enough, you’ll still be able to sleep in the back seat of a car, while an Uber or Lyft driver does all your driving. If you’re lucky, they’ll even wake you up when you arrive at your destination.

Don’t ask why, we just know

The way it is now… even if I have one of my brother’s kids do the driving (where does the time go?), there is NO WAY I can sleep because I want to be sure they are doing OK driving (usually) my car… ;-)

At some point, it is your turn to be mom or dad.

Security is listening to Curt Gowdy and Vin Scully calling a 1970’s World Series game. A good calming mechanism for reality.

Get a little older, Chuck, and you might use that rear sear for something other than sleeping.

I remember when this strip first appeared, decades ago. A true classic!

I used to have a station wagon, and I once went on a trip accross the highlands of Iceland. I just layd the backs of the back seats down and slept in the back of the car.

Security is that guy at the mall with the walkie-talkie he doesn’t know how to use and a single unused round in his breast pocket.

That is the best definition I have heard in a very long while, and I’m old.

Not quite true, Chuck. You get to sleep one more time in the back seat of the car. Unfortunately, the car is a black limosine…

It’s OK, kids – you’ll get to do many OTHER things in the back seat…

I tend to feel the LEAST secure when others are driving, but I guess that’s just me.

A Good Family is Security.

Those were the good ol’ days! And we still all survived them.

Growing up stinks.

But when you grow up you will start enjoying driving and you mate will be there to hold on to you.

Probably my favourite Peanut’s strip ever.
