My late husband was a musician & played at Nursing Homes & Assisted Living places. He sang the songs from the before the 50’s. Most of the audience remembered the songs- even ones with dementia.
I became a Glenn Miller fan in high school, endearing myself to art least one girlfriend’s grandparents. Knowing Beatles lyrics helped me with some parents.
Pluggers do not call an appliance repairman but find the root cause of the dryer failing. Then spend two days trying to find a replacement $1.00 limit switch because replacing the whole control board just plain wrong and costs $200!
You are right. May be that over the years we have learned how to repair many things ourselves so as not to waste our income and get ripped off. These days it seems that a large amount of the “Repair Men” just replace parts until things start working rather than trouble shoot and repair things.Hey they aren’t paying for it.
Saw “Yesterday”, and really enjoyed some special surprises. Our grandson is fifteen, and I asked him if he knew some of the songs. He knew the title song and “the one that was in the Bee Movie.”
I went into the Air Force in February of 64. I saw “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Help” in base theaters. Also saw “Westside Story” there. It was the only movie I saw where people left at the end in dead silence. The only sound was the exit doors opening and closing.

I can remember words to songs of the ’50s that I had forgotten about. As soon as the music starts it all comes back.

I remember the lyrics to hundreds of songs – I figure that’s why I have trouble remembering other things.

If it’s been 40 years since you’ve heard Octopus’ Garden, you must be living under a rock!
