Fred! Why is it that every time I want to sit in my chair, you're in it?! How many times do I have to tell you. Your places on the floor! Off, I say! For goodness sake, man- chill out!
You sit on the floor and see how you like it. I don’t care how much fur gets on the upholstery, my friends sit where they want. pick him up and let him sleeep on your lap.
This is just typical of the frustrated slave-owner mentally that drives many, (NOT ALL!!!) dog owners..
What kind of a guardian are you anyway? Know what? Fred is too good for you.
My dogs, and they are 100 pound babies, have their own couch in the living room, bought especially for them, and they sleep with me when they want to, and they mostly do want to. I love them. They love me. That’s the way it goes and it ain’t bad!
I can’t imagine telling my furry, four legged kids that their place is on the floor.
@magnamax is so right on! It’s the typical slave owner mentality that drives many dog owners to have this attitude.
The happiest, best adjusted dogs are the ones that are loved and truly taken care of with concern for their feelings as well as their physical needs. Dogs have feelings too you know.
What dogs need is excercise - discipline - affection. In that order. They’re not “unhappy” about not being allowed on the furniture. On the contrary, it’s reassuring for a dog to know the human “owns” the territory, otherwise they feel they have to step up into that role, which is really stressfull for them.
J_Verschueren: Nope, not gonna argue. You are right, mostly. You DO have to be the boss, but you can choose where to set the boundaries. Even my cat won’t bother me in the kitchen, byut she is welcome to inspect my plate before I eat. If she shows interest, she gets a treat, but she won’t touch until it is on her plate. What I mean is, furniture is optional, up to the owner.
@rickmac1937. To the contrary, Fred needs to be shown that he is loved and his feelings are important.
Remember a couplde of days ago when he comforted his “master” (how I hate that title) or , more to my liking, “guardian” , by “saying” , “We have something money can’t buy, Each Other”.
His “master” could lean a lesson from Fred.
It seems to me that Fred has compssion. His gurdian, not so much.
Just buy a chair or couch for Fred and let it go at that!
I have three mainecoons…Jazzy, Bella and Rusty, they sit or sleep wherever I am. Rusty is my lap cat and I love it…even though I have to vacuum almost everyday!! Lol

Hey Dad, buy another chair. Since Fred can only be in one at a time, you’ll both have a place to sit. And yes, chill out.

They have two chairs like that! See the January 3, 2011, cartoon.

The furniture in their living room seems to come and go to fit the mood of the cartoon.

Rules are made for the rulers. As one of the ruled, I’ll do as I please. Rulers are for people who are worried how many inches they have.

But the floor is cold and not as comfortable to to sleep on.

The slave-owner mentally is only frustrated with cat owners.

Much as I hate HER dog, it will get off the chair when I slap my fist into my palm. My cats, however———-

Fred, you’re getting pretty snippy there!
And yes, animals need discipline, just like kids, but if you can’t treat them as part of your family, you shouldn’t have any.

BUY HIM A CHAIR! My bet is he will want yours regardless but then you’d have a place to sit :>)

I have a deal with my cats. If I can sit on it, so can they. There’s only one thing they can sit on that I can’t.
