I could be wrong, but I was under the impression the Beatles song was a reference to the drug.

It is funny how we perceive the meaning of words and how they can change over time. If I said that I was gay, the first thought in most people’s minds would not be that I was happy go lucky. I think that I shall go out and get zonked, people will still perceive that I am going to get intoxicated…or high!
