We lie in wait, like an alligator with just our eyes above water while our over confident prey makes its re approach for what it thinks is an easy kill.
Criminal errors are the kind of thing that alert police and FBI also count on to get their man or woman. And the police have a very long memory too. Attempted murder of a police officer is serious, but since there is nothing for them to use they can’t do much.
The police are predators of criminals who are predators themselves.
Two things: The first is that, even if Tracy thinks the killer is laying low, he might not want his granddaughter hanging around with him at Police HQ where potentially she’s in harms way. The second is that as a Grandpa myself, I don’t think I’d spend a lot of time talking to my grandkids about someone trying to murder me as if they were adults. This sort of thing mobilizes a terrific amount of anxiety with children. The cops I know who are parents typically shield their kids from the dangers of their job.
TRACY: “WE doing Honeymoon… you go home with your father while the MCU works the case. You are far too young to even be considering this case AND you’re still a civilian, no matter what you may like to think.”
HONEYMOON: “Awww, cmon Pop Pop, I can help. I’ve got these funky horns, I can zap people with electricity, and I’ve got the wrist genee too, see?”
TRACY: “Yeah, and about that!”
(TRACY SNATCHES THE DEVICE FROM HER WRIST)
TRACY: “It’s bad enough I had to bail that little redheaded pest Annie out of trouble with B.B. Eyes, I’m not going to put my granddaughter at risk.”
HONEYMOON: “Awww gee Pop Pop, you’re such a stick in the mud.”
TRACY: “No Honeymoon, I’m a ‘bullet in the back’ not a stick in the mud.”
1- BLONDIE: Should you be here when they don’t even have a clue as to who plugged you? 2- TRACY: It’s the safest place in the world. 3- BLONDIE: Ummm, weren’t you shot, like, 10 steps from the front door. TRACY: Exactly my point. I should a been in here with the rest of the boys. Now tell me, how’d you get through the tight security they put around me after the shooting? BLONDIE: Everybody was in the break room. Someone brought donuts I think. TRACY: I’M TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT COPS AND DONUTS! It’s not true! Now go get me one before they eat ’em all.
As I see it, Pop Pop is working at his computer set-up at home today, which is why Honeymoon is around (and no one else, nor any of the familiar MCU HQ trappings). Honeymoon has long been interested in the detective profession and has dabbled from time to time in actual detection. Her interest is continuing and probably strengthening. Tracy is very open with her today and gives good advice on how a detective should proceed in these circumstances….

Really a story mover, sounds like more advice from Ann Landers. Maybe a crossover with her on tap?

I also think the interaction in today’s strip between Honeymoon and Dick is cute.
