Mr. Ramirez was helped to recover by the VA., Unfortunately, the VA now is WAY understaffed, WAY, WAY underfunded and WAY, WAY, WAY overwhelmed. A friend of mine suggested a novel, very public, very nasty ( for the politicians) way to address the problem; his idea is to have a career VA administrator appear before a joint session of Congress, tell ’em exactly what the problem is and how it could be fixed- with his retirement papers in his pocket. As a veteran, I appreciate what the VA does. A lot of my fellow vets in Durham, NC- the VA is the ONLY health care they have.
During the second world war, America KNEW with crystal clear knowledge, that we were fighting for the survival of America and democracy.
Nowadays, with the “forever” conflicts in the middle east and Afghanistan, the average American has no clue as to why we’re fighting or whom.
And all the while, America is continuing to be attacked and undermined by hostile forces determined to corrupt our democratic values at it’s most vulnerable spot, the voting booth. And our republican leaders and the American president refuse to acknowledge the attacks because those attacks happen to “assist” them in their “war” with the Democrats.
The American public really needs an investigation into exactly WHAT the Russians promised Senator McConnell in return for blocking any concerted response to the Russian attack on our 2016 election – and, since he’s STILL blocking efforts to stop the Russians, he’s obviously STILL GETTING something of value from those same Russians – what is it? What’s worth selling your country out, for?
I’m curious, and every American should be, as well – and especially every Kentuckian, which is where this particular viper has his nest!
I’m confused why so many commenters are thanking this character. Is it a real person? I thought this was made up for the strip. I understand thanking real warriors, but I don’t get thanking a fictional comic strip character like this.
There are less & less of them these days. I remember when they were talking about people who survived the Civil War when I was just a girl. I guess that makes me pretty old. Funny…I don’t feel that way about it!
