Been decades since I picked up a copy…but, no doubt, my perspective and personality was long ago “WARPED” by MAD’s masters of mental mayhem. Another great salute to the passing of a part of our beloved collective past – Thanks, Mr. Cavna !

We never needed MAD Magazine more than we need it now.

I read MAD magazine for about 30 years, until I was 38 years old. For all those years, their brand of wit and satire stayed sharply focused. But they lost me when they revamped the magazine to appeal to a younger audience. The “new” MAD (April 1997) had a cover depicting Alfred E. Neuman xeroxing his bare butt (with pictures of his face coming out of the copy machine, HA-HA). Very turned off by the cover, but to give it a fair chance I bought and read the issue anyway. The quality of the artwork and the level of satire just weren’t the same.

Interesting that all of the references in Cavna’s homage are from before the “new” MAD debuted.

I’m a year older than MAD. So many funny and great satire. One that stuck all these years (paraphrased); ‘…her scent with a hint of Vick’s Vaporub.’

When the real world turned so crazy, MAD became redundant. RIP, Alfred E.
