I’m pretty sure grown cats recognize their reflections, only kittens mistake them for other cats, it’s adorable seeing a kitten try to look around the mirror to see the other kitten behind it.
Only humans apes and one species of small fish possess a sense of self and recognize themselves in a mirror. Other animals fear, fight or ignore their reflection.

Or mirrored surfaces (wheel covers, patio doors), especially by male robins and cardinals

My cat’s completely ignore mirrors. They don’t react to their image – they seem to act no different than they would to a blank wall.
I assume it’s because the mirror image has no scent, but it still seems weird to me.

How would Peekaboo react if she jumped up next to her friend and found two other kittens instead of one?
