I’ve come to theorize that mom has been using reverse psychology in a long con to trick Phoebe into eating Brussels sprouts.

Nine years’ no experience of parental rebelling isn’t easy I guess.

I can do that if they are smothered in butter sauce.

I wonder if Marigold can pull off one of those “Can you believe what I have to put up with?” looks

What you need, Mari are a tattoo and / or piercings. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what will!

Grate a little nutmeg over them and they are quite good.

I taught my mom to like Brussels sprouts. It’s all in how you prepare them. My favorite is sauteed with sesame oil, soy sauce and a touch of honey, then sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds.

Marigold should have said “What have you got?”

It’s actually still a good example, though, because it shows Phoebe’s point—you need to know what you’re rebelling against before you can truly do it.

Phoebe, kids your age aren’t rebelling, they’re revolting…

She could try saying she enjoys getting into people’s garbage, just like the Unicorns in “Onward.”

Use of liquid cheese makes eating cooked Brussels sprouts edible since the cooking brings out their acidic taste.

Mmm. Brussels sprouts! My mom boiled them into cabbagy mush served plain, and I learned to dislike them. My wife, however, steams them until just right and serves them with lemon butter. Yummmy. Also very good: Roasted with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.
