George Carlin’s old joke – “I’ve seen the edge of the Universe! They just opened another Starbucks across the street from the other! They must have come to the end of the Universe! Right here at my corner!”

    (Or something like that)

In 2007, I was at a meeting in Vancouver, B.C. and walking around on Robson (a main shopping street). I came to an intersection with another street and coffee shops on all four corners, three of them Starbucks…

Since I don’t drink coffee and never have, I can safely say it was not a caffeine induced dream… I imagine that competition has eliminated that particular overabundance.

They’re in Iowa. Dedham, Iowa. No school, no motel, one bar, only five Starbucks.

The copyright notice between panels 1 & 2 says “2012”. Plus, the artwork is a little “off”. Vacation, Scott?

Yes, the strip is from July, 2012 and they were not in Iowa, as hinted by the cacti in the second panel.

I was thinking the same: Different artwork, especially for Winslow.

But I really thought – and hoped – that this was going to be a swipe at Howard Schultz!

Running well to the right of the Democratic nominees yet considered by too many (Oakstone, above) as too liberal.

    Can’t please everyone.

Which is why, I suppose, the current occupant doesn’t try to please anyone!

I do like the window sign – Last Starbucks for 0.03 mi. – that’s like the bumper sticker I want – like one of the oval ones with the mileage number in it… I want 0.01 – 52.8 feet. 8^) The one in the window is 150 ft- about the width of 2 city home lots…..

Worst coffee ever. Cheapest beans, picked green, sitting on the docks, for weeks, sprayed with pesticides then burned…pardon me…French Roasted…to hide the poor quality.

And you pay $3 for a small cup. Oh, excuse me. A “tall” cup. Do yourself a favor. Buy your coffee pretty much anywhere else. Local diner, Collectivo, heck, even 7/11 coffee is better.
