Every time that happened when I had my nephew with me, I’d say, “We’re having an adventure!” He was about 5-6 when he looked at me, sighed and said, “That just means we’re lost, Aunt Pam”. He’s 37 now.

One of those few strips that just couldn’t have happened today, thanks to, as others have pointed out above, GPS.
Of course, you also wonder why even IRL NYC didn’t require anything similar to “The Knowledge” before there was a GPS unit in every cab.
