Now
I texted Timmy's mom. We've got you two penciled in for a 3 o'clock next sunday.
When I was a kid
I'm gonna go wander round the neighborhood til I find some other kids.
See ya.
that’s how I met my childhood friends in the neighborhood. I have a neighbor whose kid is in the 5th grade and the still hover over him at the bus stop across the street from their house
I live in a cul-de-sac, I send my 7 year old out and tell him to have fun. He is often at some neighbor’s house playing for hours. I keep an eye on him but try to just let him have fun and be a kid. At his age, my parents probably had no idea where I was half the time.
Yeah well, I was a free range kid in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Riding bikes, going to the pool, hanging at friends’ houses and whatnot. Home when the street lights came on. And I was molested twice. So, I’m not sorry to say I always know where my daughter is and who she is with. She seems to be muddling through and enjoying her childhood in spite of it.

So true. And we didn’t have to come home until the street lights went on.
