If you had seen Mythbusters a few years ago, you would know that they proved this theory to be wrong. The truck weighs the same whether the birds are flying or not.
Chickens can fly, at least enough to roost overnight in low tree branches, away from predators. I grew up on a farm.
The interior mass of the truck doesn’t change because the birds are in flight. Think about it. If they are in flight, their resting weight is replaced by the downward air pressure required to keep them aloft.
Rock, that makes sense. Never thought of that. I do know chickens can fly, we had a couple several years ago, before the coyotes got ‘em, and they would roost pretty high up.
This strip laid an egg. We used to raise chickens, but it just can’t be done at home anymore - Too many hawks (now protected), coyotes and other varmints unless their area is entirely fenced - including overhead. Free ranging no longer works. Also, they are going to stuff that many chickens into an ENCLOSED space - no ventilation?
Valis616, Rockhouse is right on both counts. And I love Myth Busters although I do know of some mistakes they have made such as testing the flight of atlatls. They used a broom sized spear. Atlatl throwing is one of my hobbies and the spear must be no larger than 5/8” diameter. I have always lived on a farm and exturk is pretty close to being right. It gets harder all the time to keep chickens free grazing because of the preditors. I lost all my turkeys last year in one night and they were in a cage. We figured it was a snake because the mesh size was a heavy 1 x 2 inches.

If the bridge collapses and they are all killed and nobody is there to see it or hear it will it still make a splash or a noise?

Mythbusters is a load of unscientific tripe. Someone should bust Mythbusters :P

Two odd things about this strip:
(1) How can a truck that size possible weigh five tons?
(2) How can two tons of chickens fit inside that little truck without being crushed first?

Is there anything about Colonel Sanders in this cartoon?
