I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how olivia jaimes’ nancy basically follows from calvin of calvin and hobbes. It’s a good tack, and mostly I’ve been thinking about how few other comics have really followed that sort of vein of childish ego since. Nancy ends up a bit different because she doesn’t have such a reliable foil as hobbes, but her relationships to her other classmates is better supported and works with larger stories than calvin’s, like, two named classmates.
Nancy, even if you become the most successful attention whore of all time, get your name in the headlines every day, you’ll find you still won’t have any self respect – and you probably won’t get reelected.
