Mrs. Ballard reminds me of Hot Lips in the M*A*S*H movie. When the halftime gun goes off, Hot Lips bellows out, “They shot him!” Colonel Blake then calls her an incredible nimcompoop.
Yay, one of my hopes happened. But Chet is yelling some of the stupidest criticism of Gil ever. It would be great if this led to Milford losing, but sadly I predict that Tiki will get the game clinching interception or hit to cause a fumble. Then Chet can take some solace that his failure to perform his duties as head of the School Board were in some way responsible for the victory.
I won’t say this is unrealistic, as I can imagine there are sports parents like this. But it is very annoying. I hate when writers (for comic strips, TV shows, movies, books, whatever) think that annoying characters are entertaining. They really aren’t. Just stop.
Chet should have complained about making him run right, when everyone who reads the Milford Bugle knows how bullish Gil is about the left side of the line…
I now (apparently) have a bet with my brother that if the ‘Larks win the Valley I DON’T have to get a Thorp-related tattoo. I’m going in with Mop and Wildcat to put up some more GIL’S GOTTA GO billboards in an effort to save my hide. Coach ’em up will ya!
I like how there’s always at least one fan totally oblivious to the action. Milford fails to get the first down but side-gapped tooth kid with the tiny hat is just giddy with delight. And Mom is all like, “hear no evil” in that same panel.
And speaking of “hear no evil”, I don’t want to hear any evil comments about today’s Mopped Up Thorp: https://moppedupthorp.wordpress.com/

Yes, a fumble is definitely the coach’s fault

I’m having a hard time interpreting the expression of that toothy lad in P2, but I really like his tiny hat.

It’s fourth and two Mom, defence isn’t on the field yet. Oh and sit your stupid butt down Chet.

Don’t they need to punt before the defense comes out? This isn’t Canadian football. ;)

P1, Well, at least “Sorry” Charlie Roh didn’t fumble.
P2, You can defend him to the death, Chet but he still won’t call you dad.
P3, Nice giant man hands on mom.

In all reality , Chet is totally out of control and has to be restrained from running on to the sideline and attacking Gil .

Stand down, “Dad” – it’s football, it happens. (I bet Charlie will be the first to tell you that…)

9 carries for 12 yards won’t get you much playing time.

Here’s an idea Chet, start a billboard campaign to have Thorp removed as coach.

Coach Thorp thought bubble: “Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me?”
