    Ceiling fans are designed to have very low-torque motors. You can stop them with your hand without any difficulty (although if you held it, it might burn the motor out).

    So that scene in “The Temple of Doom” where the guy is hung by the ceiling fan takes a lot of suspension of disbelief.

    Sometimes being an engineer (and pilot) takes the fun out of watching some movies. I can’t tell you the number of technical inaccuracies there are in one of the Die Hard movies.

    Aunty, try one of those 260 foot high wind turbines. That fan might be able to hold an ample lady of your size.
