Yeah–on D-day, a scratch force of about 100 officers and men formed around a nucleus from the third battalion (division reserve) of the 501st (101st Airborne Division). Members of the group included both General Maxwell Taylor and Assistant Division Commander Gerald Higgins, leading General Taylor to quip, “Never were so few led by so many”.
