Someday Stu hopes to come up with a quick response to Bert’s gibes, but today will be like usual and he will think of one two hours after he goes to bed tonight.

But, Howie, you’ll be implementing my suggestion tomorrow morning. And, as usual, you’ll try to take the credit for it.

Fortunately, this is the closest “Ballard Street” ever came to becoming “Dilbert”.

Stu is having a bad day. He’ll make up for it tomorrow.

Ah… I see that most of you think Bert was insulting Stu.

I took it the other way.

From the contemplative expression on Stu’s face, head a bit bowed, pencil to chin, eyeing the simulated object lesson of Bert’s posed fingers…

I took Bert for a mentor… someone whose advice Stu welcomed, even sought, in his bid to become a valued member of the staff, instead of the bottom-of-the-heap, sometimes laughingstock, he knew himself to be.

If he weren’t Mr. Pierpoint’s son-in-law, he’d still be the best stockroom guy at Pine Street Produce and Pet Supply, like he was before he married Miranda Pierpoint, and got thrown in over his head.
