    My great-grandpa worked in a shingle mill. When I knew him, he had about 3 complete fingers on both hands. But he could still deal cards and play pinochle really well.

    A very good friend of mine learned the hard way about wearing a protective glove. He accidentally stabbed himself and severed a nerve. It’s been several years and he has no feeling in his fingers.

    Neither of these guys was taught whittling as Scouts. The first thing you’re taught is to cut away from yourself. At least the Pulley Club knows their knots although few of them made it through Cub Scouts.
