When he was 8 weeks old and you named him Thunder, did you not have an idea about his size? I mean, he ate the back seat of the car. That should been a hint. Let’s hope you don’t have to visit the " Little Boys Room" for the next 11 hours or so.
Sometimes big dogs are the sweetest ones, who want most to be lap dogs.
I have a theory about that.
While I happen to have a soft spot for certain kinds of bratty little dogs… schipperkes, terriers, Jack Russells and such… I know their behavior wouldn’t be tolerated in a Great Dane.
I think large dogs, long ago, HAD to be bred for gentleness, or learn it, because no one would feed and house them if they acted like Chihuahuas…
And Chihuahuas can get away with murder because you can pick one up and hold it over your head when it won’t listen.
Yes, there are large attack dogs and fighting dogs… but that trait, unfortunately, has been bred back into them by humans who want to exploit those characteristics.
I had an Alaskan Malamute, Nikko, that was the size of a big wolf! When I walked him people would ask if he was a wolf……LOL He loved to sit on my lap …
I’ve seen cats do this but they are 10 times smaller. Never buy a dog who will grow so big that obedience is optional. Make no mistake, properly trained big dogs can be magnificent but I have only seen two or three in my lifetime.

That, Leo, is why you don’t let a mastiff cross pup get used to being a lap dog.
