It makes sense to me to take it apart if she was planning not to use it anymore. I hope she has a replacement.

I just installed our first new toaster in 30 years. The old one was a British Dualit, that most beautiful of toasters that looks like it belongs on a starship. The set dressers put one in the break room of the Goldeneye complex in that bond film. It’s irresistible. But I recently had an experience trying to get the correct parts to fix another, and I don’t want to go through that with this one one day. And while it’s still working, it can be sold on eBay for real rood money, far more than I paid for the new one.

The Dualit never did make evenly toasted toast or toast equally toasted on both sides. But we forgave it on account of its beauty. The new one, a Cafe Express finish machine, also lovely, bought from Amazon as an unopened return for half price, makes absolutely perfect toast.

I got sucked in on vacuum day. I had lint all over. Now I take a detour.

My grandparents let me take apart old things things they wouldn’t use anymore. Toasters, radios, a camera. I learned a lot, mind you it was more the taking apart not the putting back together.

This would have been fascinating when I was kid. Plus, I would not have had to disassemble the family toaster. Fortunately, I got better at reassembly over the years. :)

I taught a culinary arts class in highschool. We were making breakfast foods and another teacher stopped by and kidded me asking if the lesson for the day was about toasters. So, I later drew up an entire sheet of study notes about toasters and showed it to him. He was speechless.
