I think if Jim did the Sedge-Jarvis series regular it may get diluted. The fact he hops around with these different vignettes keeps the whole thing fresh, in my opinion.
SFX will not overwhelm the RL bad guys, Flying Squirrelman (a.k.a. Sedgwick Nuttingham III, a secret identity known only to his faithful manservant, Jarvis*).
