There are a number of obnoxious protagonists in comic strips. (And lots of obnoxious antagonists.) Andy Capp was one of the protagonists who really annoyed me. Bucky, in Get Fuzzy annoys me, but I think he may qualify for principle antagonist rather than protagonist.
