bixby: Fritz, I've got a question about this health insurance you got me. fritz: What is it? bixby: Well, it seems to cover only very specific things... scratches? Bites? rabies? bubonic plague? When am I ever going to get those things?? fritz: that doesn't insure you, it insures other people against you. bixby: Well, get ready to make a claim...

People have this thing about rats because they aren’t cute like squirrels or deer who carry all kinds of nasties too. Just saw a news article where rats find land mines, too light to set them off. They can detect diseases in samples in minutes instead of the days it takes lab techs. Being trained to find victims in rubble too. No squirrels or deer do that.

The rats are trained to do that. They don’t do it naturally. Dogs are trained for the same things. Perhaps we can train squirrels and deer to do these things.
