It all depends, by some definitions, the Earth moon system is sometimes considered a double-planetary system. Granted, that’s not the official designation, but the idea does persist in certain circles.
…and the essay that you’re going to have to write, does NOT have to be in cursive. Oh yeah…and spelling won’t count…nor will determining the distance to the moon in metric matter, so that almost every country in the world will know.
Hold on kid, you just learned that the moon was not a planet. Now take that and run with it. (How far away is it? If it isn’t a planet, what is it then? What function does it serve? How does its orbit benefit us here on earth? >hint< 1 use is as a night light.
I had a junior high school science teacher who could not figure out how the moon could rotate on its axis and keep the same side facing the Earth (she was actually the home ec teacher). Some astronomers call the Earth and the moon a binary planetary system since the moon is the largest satellite in the solar system relative to the size of its planet (the diameter of the moon is 27% the diameter of the Earth).

The moon isn’t a planet, it’s a natural satellite. As well as all the other planet’s moons.
