Or, ya know, you could arrange things so that it doesn’t take a week’s take home pay for a blue collar family to attend a single “major league” game. Just sayin’.
Try going to some of the college football game with the family. It takes the average fan two weeks salary just for the privilege of being able to buy season tickets.
Here’s another thought. Starting the games at late hours (and yes I know some division games are early) is killing the future fan base. What kid is allowed to stay up to watch a game that ends after midnight.
Watching the Rays play last night at that miserable excuse for a baseball stadium, Tropicana Field, I was reminded of when I took my young grandson ( 8 at the time, and is now 24 ) to watch the Rays play the Red Sox. It cost me almost $100 for the afternoon – not including the tickets, which I’d been given free.
Here’s an idea from Larry “Bud” Melvine that might work but only during the playoffs – 6" spikes on the bats and let the baserunners carry them their entire trip around the bases.

One of my all-time favorite Mad Magazine articles was about turning baseball into basebrawl. You have to see it to believe it!
