If you enjoy continuity, Mildred works in the same café that Esther is employed at during the summer in Giant Days (issue 37 or volume 10). In the interim years, the “nippy” waitress outfit has been phased out.
Lottie’s got a point—when you take into consideration all the expenses you have to shell out for the owning and maintenance of a car…using other means of transportation does start seeming a lot more desirable.
I live in a small town, so I avoided getting a car for years longer than most others in my age group in favor of just walking for this very reason. It was cheaper (and better exercise) to just walk, even if it did take longer to get from point A to point B.
Love to walk. Sold my car many years back. Living and working downtown Chicago makes this a breeze. CTA and Metra cover the area, while zip cars are parked a block away.

I’d say electric bicycle, but I think in England they limit the motor to 250W? You get a proper workout that way, but I really liked my 750W bicycle.

A donkey is a better option than a scooter. Scooters are the devil’s tools, as we have seen.

Isn’t Mildred the oldest of all the Mystery kids? Then they’re all still 15 in this story.

Lottie makes quips while feeding her hips.

It probably won’t happen, but I deeply wish to see all the people of Tackleford riding donkeys around town.

“I’m not doing some dirty job is a pretty awful thing to say to someone who is doing the job in question.

Good. We’re current on their age now.

I have mixed feelings about Lottie’s wearing her hair in a bun. I feel that she may be transforming into Margo Magee from Apartment 3-G.
