What a dorky kid.

This is the first “actual” appearance of Marcie. An earlier version of her, Clara, appeared in a summer camp storyline a couple of years ago. This character truly represents Marcie because she is a bit taller and she has no visible pupils in her glasses. In this comic, Marcie represents the character trait that she will keep during the rest of the strip’s run; she is an annoying, discombobulated shadow of Peppermint Patty. However, it was later revealed that Marcie is actually smarter than Peppermint Patty.

Marcie’s always been my favourite girl in the Peanuts gang. Totally adorkable, and I really do think she would be the best match for Charlie.

Happy 50th anniversary, Marcie! Welcome to the strip! Yup, it was indeed 50 years ago today, on Tuesday 7/20/1971 when she made her debut; it is indeed Tuesday, 7/20/2021 as I make this comment. :)
