When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I was in the church choir. I sat next to a little 13-year-old girl who had never met a pregnant woman before. When the altos weren’t being taught their part, she would ask me a bunch of questions, and I’d answer them. I’ll never forget the first time I let her feel the baby kick! That “baby” is now 14, and that little girl is now a grown woman…and we still have a special bond.
My daughter kicked constantly and like a mule till the doctor took me (and her by default) off sugar and caffeine (mostly from chocolate). PS. It also went through the breastmilk.
When I was offered the opportunity to do a syndicated strip, Universal Press asked me to send 3 weeks of dailies as an example of my work. I was expecting my daughter, Katie, at the time, so pregnancy was on my mind. One of the strips I sent was me, well-rounded and trying to play the guitar. It was resting against my bouncing belly and I was saying to the baby inside, “What’s the matter, you don’t like Vivaldi?”
I remember once when I was very pregnant with my son. I was at an investiture ceremony at a masonic lodge and he decided it was wake-up time. I could watch his head moving from one side to the other of my belly.

At least you know the little one is alive – and when the TV announcement “Do you know where your children are” comes on, yes you know!
